Last day of summer camp

we had such a graet time this summer. Exploring museums, swimming in lakes, pools, springs, and the ocean, hangin at water country and just being together!! We had a blast, the kids are getting so big and Im sad to say tht this is the last year of the A-team summer camp. but, we will be having more fun together in the future, just not such a long period of time!

We took a trip over to Randolph, like 20 minutes south of here, to a spot that our friend Ellen told us about to pick blueberries. Its awesome, there is a huge field to pick and then there is a river to swim in and then a playground too. it was fun, isiah was really into it, he didnt even want to go swimming and it was a hot day!

Glen Ellis Falls and 3rd Hole

We meet up with our cousins this weekend at Glen Ellis Falls, then headed over to 3rd hole for some swimming. It was awesome!

The kids and I took a hike to Carter Notch Hut, it was 4 miles up to the hut but we only made it 2 miles, then 2 miles back. We have to buikd up to 4 miles (total 8).

Nadia kicked Isiahs butt on rock climbing but, Isiah was the one in the end to be able to do the flips on the bungy jumping... Nadia just couldnt get it...so, Isiah is our flipper and Nadia is our Climber...for now.

We hung out at Loon mountain with friends and the kids all bungy jumped and rock clinbed like...all day.

The Barry boys all play hockey, so this snap-shot fits them well. We hung out at the museum on a rany day two weeks ago, it was fun they have the biggest Lego model of Old Manchester with all the mills and stuff. The kids were building a huge tower.

This year in summer camp, picking who is IT in hide-go-seek-go-tag, has gotten more creative. they do a great job!

We were driving by, just in time, for the neard to be grazing near the street. We hung out for about 20 minutes, the final count on cows was 44.

On the way home we drove through Vermont leading us into Bath NH. We found the oldest general store in America. It was awesome, next door was the old fashioned malt shoppe and then we got fudge at the general store.

Nadia went to her first over-night camp this year. She loved it. This was one of her favorite parts, the water slide. She said she picked all her free time activities to be in the water, shocker. we missed her and Isiah and Nadia are both making plans already on what they want to do next year at camp Squanto!

We had a blast this weekend. We sent home early on Friday because Tommy was a guest speaker at a the Stonyfield conference Friday afternoon/evening. He was speaking on technology and internet businesses, cuz he is so amazing says "I". Tommy is connected with Katie Payne, she started a business up here in Berlin that has to do with PR in the social media world and...I dont know much more than that but here is her web site. http://kdpaine.blogs.com/

Friday we went to the beach but I didnt get any pics of that because I didnt have my phone, then Saturday night we hung out with the Gredenius family. Sunday we went to Harbor Church in Portsmoutn NH, awesome people there, awesome young people! Check out this Sermon. Then we hung out in Portsmouth and ate at our fav burrito place Dos Amigos.
Saturday night the kids went with my parents to the annual penny sale in Hampton at Sacret Heart school. Here ar the pics.

So yesterday was my birthday and Tommy took nadia to school and when he got back I was still in my PJ's. He says "go get dressed, Im takin ya out to breakfast" We had fun there, he was cracking me up and of course he took a bunch of embarrassing photos of me...LOL

we traveled to the YANKEE SMOKEHOUSE for a surpise that was awesome. I had already guessed where we were going, cuz Tommy knows thats my favorite place! But I didnt know who we were meeting there. My MOM AND DAD!! and John Jr came too, he bought a special shirt and tie, I thought that was neet!
The best thing about the smokehouse is that they have a Gluten free menu. Nadia and I give that a thunbs up!
After hanging out there for a couple of hours we went to North Conway to walk around and Tommy wanted an ice cream. We played at the park for a bit and checked out the train station there for the Conway Sceneic Railway!. On mothers day MOMs ride free so we are all going there with my parents too!
Sunday we had a GREAT Easter. We went to church for breakfast and to hang out and go to the service, then The Ross family invited us over lat minute to spend the day with them. We usually go hiking on Easter but this year it snowed all day and it was freezing, we had a blast!!

well, yesterday a package came in the mail and Tommy is not good at keeping surprises so...he let me open it early. ok ok ok.....I annoyed him until he let me open it but...its kinda the same thing...right?
well, all winter there has been this on-going joke about the Snuggie. Ever hear of it? if not click on the link, its worth it. Well, it was a funny joke between my friends and I and one night....Im laying in bed and its chilly and I say....Boy, this would be a great time to have a snuggie. Cuz, your all wrapped up in your blankets but you have to hold out an arm to hold your book, and that arm gets cold. Then you have to also take out you other snuggly warm arm to trun the page....
So...for two months, Tommy remembered ths and....he got me one for my birthday. I was laughing so hard, i could barely try it on....My husband is hillarious, id have it no ther way. Thank you Honey...I love it!

Kitchen Aid is the Best!!

Lets start with why its the best. Well, almost everything in my kitchen is made from kitchen aid and I love their products. Makes life so much easier in the kitchen. My mother in law started me on everything red so I kept it going. Well, a few months ago, i noticed that my big pot was peeling inside, Teflon or whatever...so I emailed kitchen aid about it and they said to send it in. They sent me a brand new pot.
A little while after Isiah was using the can opener and I dont know how or what but...he busted it, I sent that in...and they sent me a spanky new one!!
So my point here is, buy kitchen aid, its like craftsman tools, lifetime guarantee!!

you can pretty much call this the Sophia blog entry. She got most of the attention all weekend, as most babies do.
We had fun together, it was rainy so we stayed inside and played the wii. Nadia and Isiah both had amazing report cards...HIGH HONOR ROLL BABY!!! so we had a little party. Nadia and I baked a red velvet cake, that I forgot to get a picture of...DOH! and we had lots of balloons....

I made a nice breakfast Saturday morning and I just found these pics on Tommys phone....dont get hungry when you see the bacon....I luv bacon too...

April Fools day we decided to escape all the madness from trickery and head to the mountain...lol
We headed over to Waterville Valley to meet up with our friends from home. Erica, Jay, Leah and Zoe. Isiahs buddy slept over and he shredded with us too. It was a bit slushy and icy in areas but overall I thought it was dope!

We hung out for a bit inside too, the fire was nice and we chatted....just the girls.

This weekend we had fun just being together. We've had people up almost every weekend for the past 3 months. Its been totally fun to have everyone up here, but it was also nice to have nothing to do. So we took a walk and found some cool stuff. The first picture is of a tree visited by a beaver. Then we found the ruins of an old HUGE mill in the middle of the Androscoggen river. We could get close enough to get any pics but, maybe when the mud dries up we can go further in.

Then on Saturday afternoon, Isiah and I built a ramp for his skateboard and did all the figurings for his board to roll up it without getting snagged at the plywood...

This weekend was great, we got a chance to go back home for a couple of days. It was really busy Friday night and Saturday morning. Well Friday I went to Wildcat Mountain with a few friends and then drove home so I could play drums for the womens retreat. Then got up early Saturday morning to play at the retreat and then got back to Chris and Saras about noon and headed over to Prescott park in Portsmouth. That was awesome because I was really missing the ocean big time!! The rest of Saturday we chilled out and enjoyed some much needed rest. Sunday morning I got to Jam with pastor Chris over at Rye congregational. what a blast all over the place!! Sorry to everyone that I didnt get a chance to visit...just..."a quick" visit I say.

This weekend was awesome, Saturday the Nowaks came up for a visit and a "sleepover". I thought it was cool that the boys kept talking about the sleepover at Aprils house...its a big deal when you are little, to sleep in someone elses house.
Saturday we went for a walk downtown and went over the bridge to the playground and the kids loved the dam and all the rushing water. Connor through some branches in and we ran to the other side of the bridge to see them float under and eventually....away..The playground was fun,
just enough had melted away so we could enjoy.

Sunday the boys and I went to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast together and then took a stroll around town. It was so nice out. Then when they left the temp kept rising so...I brought the rocking chair that Tdd made me out on the porch to read a bit...Tommy came home and i traded the rocking chair with him and the kids and I hit Rock band hard!
Then...we went for a walk, longest one yet so fay, hit the trail behind the big green water tube seen on here before, then all the way to an old bakery that Tommys grandfather built cabinets for back in the day, past Nadias school and up a big hill home....the we watched Petes Dragon...my favorite movie in the entire world. Then we went to church for an ice cream social...yummy!!

Well, this weekend was pretty relaxing, my parents were supposed to come up but...didnt make it. So Saturday we went for the longest walk ever, we found a cool bridge that crosses the androscogin tiver north of town and the kids thought that was cool. After we crossed it we were walking alone and since everything around here is melting, there are puddles everywhere well.....SPLASH..I got it from some mean guy in a Jaguar. I know he did it on purpose because as soon as he saw us he speed up so fast and there wasnt anyone on the other side of the road, he could have moved over. He was doingn like 50 in a 30.......anyway, that was fun
Then we came h ome, played some rock band, backed some cookies and watched a movie. Sunday was nice, went to church, came home ate Chicken pot pie and then headed fora walk down town. We found a really neet shop that I hadnt really noticed before, Nadia seemed to feel like it was a magical shop. They had indian artifacts, sculttures, clay figures, glass reflector thingys, lots of incense, and tons of candles. Tommy Loves candles in case anyone reading this didnt know that....so we bought a couple and headed back home for another movie....
thats about it...
everything is melting away here, however we are having some snow come down right now but...its suposed to be a dusting..like an inch.... :-(

This is the hottest spot to sled around here, its a ten minute drive up to Milan but its worth it. We only lasted about an hour because even though it was sunny, it was windy and icy and cold!

Our very good friends from back home came up to visit this weekend. They came up Friday night with their dog buddy, and stayed until Sunday afternoon. Friday night we hung out and Saturday we went for a walk after a big breakfast. We took them to the trails downtown by the river. We did a little foolin around and there was lots of ice to skate on. Saturday night Derrick and Melyssa came over and got the Wii on baby!! Then Sunday Liz and Todd joined us on stage for a little music at church, we rocked the house...well...as much as you can anyway!

Gunstock last Monday

We had February vacation last week and on Monday we meet up with some friends from back home at Gunstock. We havent been to Gunstock in a long time, we had forgotten how fun it was. Isiah learned on this Mountain when he was 7. We would go every Thursday after school and Nadia learned here when she was 5. We would go when we could, and when we had the money. Last year we had seasons passes to Macintire in Manchester. It was a small mountain but Nadia really gained confidence here and Isiah grew stronger on the rails.

Today seems to be off to a great start for many different reason. The number one reason is that we finally know what our little Molly is facing and her family is staying super positive as they begin to help Molly beat her cancer. The sun is shining, it's not freezing, and we even have a little wave pulling into town and building throughout the day. We have a fun event happening in Portsmouth tonight at 5pm with local band Todos Bien playing a groovy set followed up by one of the best surf movies ever, Big Wednesday at 7pm. We also should see Buck out tonight so it will be a good chance to give him a hug and a high-five. And last but not least, the Pioneers indoor soccer team has a game at 9pm at the seacoast arena. So go for a surf, come to the event, or come cheer our team on. Get involved and stay motivted for more surf tomorrow.

I also just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone that has dropped something off for Molly here at the shop. We have already received tons of cards, gifts, and baked good. If this keeps up, and I hope it does, we are going to need a much bigger box. So again thank you to everyone for the support and keep your eyes on the ocean. Get some waves and spread some stoke!

Molly's Updates

Game Time....

Hey all, Tough day for Ms. Molly but she is such a tough little girl. Molly officially has Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma and they're starting her treatments ASAP. I rolled to Boston this morning, and I'm staying in the hospital with Meg and Molly tonight because they are going to be treating Molly throughout the night and Meg needs the support. Papa and Nana are home with Kieran, and they report that he's sound asleep. Finn must have worn him out! Thank you, Erin!

Today Molly looked a lot better. She had a few ultra sounds (one on her chest and another one on her abdomen)- she had a lot of blood taken, which Molly is never too stoked to have, and her lack of bowel movements have us all concerned. You will have to bear with me as I attempt to paint a picture for you, but the fluids that Molly is taking in through the IV is leaking from her veins. As a result of this, her kidneys are not recognizing the fluid so poor Molly is urinating very, very little. She is dehydrated even though there are fluids being pumped into her constantly. Molly is bloated - from her tummy to her toes - so the doctors are concerned but feel as though the trauma is running its course.

Molly is beginning her steroid treatments tonight, which we all hope will start to shrink some of the tumors in her tummy. Chemo is going to be on the cocktail menu as well, over the next few days, and the doctor's are going to wait until Molly is more stable to begin her chemo treatments. The poor kid also has to have her bone marrow checked as well as the cells in her spine. Our doctor's have to make sure that they can attack all of the cooties inside of Molly so they're being thorough and covering all of the bases.

Meg and I are getting stronger by the day - it's apparent because I'm not crying while I type tonight - and we're just rolling with the punches. Molly is being so brave, such a great little kid, and she's not scared as much as just plain tired of being sick and stuck in bed. The doctor's are awesome, the nurses are so wonderful, and Molly is definitely getting the best care possible. Once the treatment begins and Molly starts her chemo, we should see our little girl start to get better. That is what be believe.....

Meg and I can't thank you folks enough for being there for us. We can't help but get emotional when we read your wonderful messages on the Care Page, and your good thoughts are giving us an incredible amount of courage that we're trying to pass on to Molly. We are so grateful that everyone wants to jump in and help, and it's a beautiful gesture that many of you have started the "Little Miss Molly Foundation." Good afternoon everyone. First off I just want to thank everyone for the tremendous amount of support we have already seen being given to the Rowlee family. I got an email from Buck this morning and he asked me to post it so that everyone could read it. So here it is:

Hey gang, Meg and I can't even begin to thank you all for all of the tremendous love and support that you have shown us as we get ready to drop the gloves and help Molly get back on track. She is sick and our hearts are broken, but we're feeling strong because you folks are giving us the strength to help Molly fight to overcome her cancer. It is difficult to wrap your head around this because it doesn't make sense, but Meg and I truly feel that some higher power had a master plan when we were "lured" back to NH over a year ago. Meg and I are overwhelmed with the love that this community has shown us, over the past several days, and we couldn't be in a better place as we're surrounded by such an amazing group of friends and family. Thank you all.

I hope to see everyone at the Music Hall tomorrow night as I look forward to some big hugs. Meg and I are getting stronger with each passing day. So again thank you so much for everything that everyone is doing. We have the best community ever right here, no doubt. Speaking of community we have an event coming up tomorrow night at the Portsmouth Music Hall. Local band "Todos Bien" will be playing an acoustic set down stairs in the new renovated bar area starting at 5pm. We got our hands on some vintage home movies that will be played in the background. They show Seabrook beach in the 60s and are courtesy of the Harter family. The movie will begin at 7pm and is an epic tale of friendship and surf and there is a surprise intro planned. Some good friends of mine are having a rough time back home, Id like you all to read this and do what you can. I dont ask for favors, ever, so...spread this to everyone you know and do what you can to help out!
If you have ever read the Pioneers blog before you have heard Buck talk of community and of the strength of ours, here on the seacoast. Unfortunately, Buck and his wife have received some bad news as of late regarding their daughter Molly. Molly was diagnosed with Lymphoma yesterday and it has taken the Rowlee family by surprise along with everyone who knows them. So now is the time to show the Rowlee family just how strong the community really is. As of right now there are fundraisers and events in the planning stages and we will do everything we can to keep you updated on them. The most important thing we, as a community, can do is rally around Molly and the rest of the Rowlee family and show them our support. Hike Berlin NH Downtown

Yesterday it was very nice out when the kids got home from school so we put homework on hold and went for a walk. We did our usual, downtown to family dollar for a snack and then went to see if the path was cleared near the damn. It was! So we took an adventure in there and found some trails in the woods near the falls. It was nice to hear the sound of rushing water, reminded me of all the time we spent up here last summer in the rivers.

Friday we had an awesome day ripen it up @ Brenton Woods, the conditions were totally sweet! We are expected to get some fresh powder this week so I hope to get out there. The Van has been acting a little funny so, im not sure how many trips Ill dare to take over to the mountain. We had fun this weekend, we hung out Saturday morning and then went on an adventure with map in the hand! We drove the longest way ever over to Loon mountain. We took 16 over to 2, then went over a covered bridge over to Vermont, then turned around and headed south on 135, then took 10 over to 93 and then got off in Lincoln. We went over to Loon to check it out and get some trail maps. They have a totally sick half pipe there!!! We got to watch a few boarders rock it hard! The place was packed there, police directing traffic and everything, nuts!
Then we headed over to the Woodstock Inn Brewery. It was cool because Mimi and Poppy meet us there, its sort of a half way point, and Taylor was up from Florida visiting for the weekend so we got to see him too. The food was totally awesome there!! Taylor and I tried the Wassil on tap, no kidding it was like 8%.
Today we just hung out at church, took a nap, did some choveling, changed the wipers on the car and did some winterizing up in the attic.

Isiahs Honor Roll Celebration

Today we decided to do something special with the kids to celebrate Isiah making the Honor roll for the first time! He seems to be in his element up here, we love seeing that! Nadia will be getting her report card this Monday and we will post about that when it comes too.
We took decided to take the kids to see a movie and go for a walk through the shops in North Conway. We hung out in the TOY CHEST. Ive driven past that store about 50 times and always wanted to go in, it was fun. They had an American Doll section so Nadia was thrilled. Isiah too, he loves reading those American Girl Doll books, I guess they have allot of TRUE History in them and he LOVES History and Social Studies.
There was a Ski Museum there that we checked out. And the Ski Jump thats up here in Berlin NH was in the museum, I think that was the kids favorite part.
Then we hung out in Adamma's African Imports and I talked to the owner there. I played Djembe with her about 13 years ago when she was in a different location in north Conway. She remembered me. A few friends and I were camping up there along the saco and we stopped in and she let me play in her store. I remember that when I played djembe with her she told me my drumming was too American and I think about that almost every time I play. I never really did better my African playing but...I try, and only because she said that to me that day. I thought I was good at the Djembe because the spring before that summer some friends and I came in 1st place in the high school talent show and thts the instrument I was playing....lol She teaches lessons...maybe I should check it out...
Anyway...then we went into a bunch of other stores and finally went to the movies. We stopped in for some Chinese food in the mall where the theatre is first. They had AWESOME sweet and Sour soup....love it!
We saw the movie INKHEART. I am not usually a fan of Brendan Fraser but...I thought this movies was awesome! Check it out!

Brenton Woods

The kids and I enjoyed an afternoon of boardin @ Brenton Woods with some other friend from church. The conditions were stellar today, not much ice and Nadia was tearing it up! She can finally keep up with isiah and I with no problems, in fact Im always telling her to slow down, she scares the oogy foogy out of me!!

We have been waiting for this day for a couple of years now and I am sooooooo overwhelmed! The kids are watching this at school and Tommy and I are at home, I wish we were all together to watch it but....WOW, think how blessed we are to watch it. Imagine all around the world, there are so many millions watching this and so many millions more WANTING to watch it.
This day in history is something to be proud of. Not only did we vote for the first black president, but we came together when we thought our country was falling apart. We made a decision based on the best interest of the country, religion aside, race aside, gender aside! Obama is on his walk with the Lord, and hopefully he will continue to grow in the word and God keeps transforming his heart, but apart from that I Put my FAITH in him, and I believe that he will make the right decisions not only because he has a history of putting others first but because his family will hold him acountable.

This is the EXETER high school when we went to see OBAMA speak last winter and I, APRIL MASIERO, ASKED HIM FOR A HUG AND....HE SAID "oh, sure"....I HUGGED THE PRESIDENT!!!!!
and we sat right behind him....i mean, like....20 feet!!
The kids and Tommy got to shake his hand and exchange a few words....it was awesome!!!

So, we got back from our trip on Fiday and just sort of hung around the house on Saturday having a pj day. Well, we rememberd that we had a pot luck at church on Sunday so I had to run out to the grocery store and of course I waited until the very last hour...like 7pm.
So Im driving and I see all these police cars and fire trucks and ambulances down town on the main street. I couldnt really get a good look at what was going on and I got some video but it was no good in the dark. Basically a few businesses burned down on Saturday starting @ 5am and the temp was -30. Sunday River Family Vacation

We went to Sunday River this past week and we had a blast. The kids had lessons all day for Four days in a row while Mom vacated to the trails. We did board together a little each afternoon and half the day yesterday but for the most part it was a total learning experience for the kids. I think Nadia went up like two levels and Isiah is now doing tail grabs.
Sunday night The Gredenius family and the Rahn Family came up to stay with us so we could all travel to Sunday river together and the girls could have a huge slumber party. We got up early in the morning and drover over and when we got there, everything that could go wrong did...but, we had to laugh because....it really was one thing after another...lol, but we got the kids in ski school and hit the slopes. It was awesome!
Monday started rough and ended rough...lol after boarding we hit the hot tub and pool, and then Tommy really wanted a big juicy burger so we took off to the Foggy Goggle.
What a Dining nightmare, we got our food late, then Tommys burger was "stolen off the grille" and we had to wait another 20 mi nutes for that, then the computers were down and Nadia was falling asleep at the table while we waited for our check, another 20 minutes...so we added what we owed and left it on the table. We were happy though because we got to see the fireworks.

Then Tuesday, got the kids in ski school and hit the slopes with Chris, took a break in the Jordan Grande and then road a few over towards Barker Peak and then took another break til i got the kids. Im still workin in my new boots so Ive been takin like three breaks during the day. Actually Tuesday I took a nap too...lol Tuesday night we had dinner and meet the Gredinius family over at the pool, that was fun because Ryder, their baby was a riot!

Wednesday was fun, I got to board with Chris and Sara this day. We covered a lot of terrain, I took a rest after a few runs because the wind was brutal, so I hopped pool and did a few laps before resting in the hot tub. I talked Tommy into hangin out with me in there, everyone else was skiing and we had the place to our selves. We didnt last to long, you know how it is...your having a nice conversation and then you both realize...its hotter than hell in here, lets bail!!!!
So then I got geared up again and went for a souple more hours with Chris and Sara.
That night we took the kids out to dinner at Legends in the Grand Summit Hotel. That was fun watching Isiah eat spicy chillie and Nadia eating buffalo wings...lol After we finished eating, I mean stuffing ourselves, seriously we all grew a belt size that night... We went home and watched a movie and fell asleep. Got up Thursday for another fun filled day and I went out in the morning by myself, sun on my face and fresh groomed ridges under my board...I was loving life. Went in, chilled in pool and hot tub then got geared up and got Nadia after lunch. Her and I ripped it up for about an hour, then we ran into Morgan, Sara and Chris on the top of the Chondola. Road with them a few times and ran into Isiah, then the three of us took off on our way over to White Cap and shredded over there and we were the only ones there....dude...we got freshly groomed trails @ 2/3 pm...thats unheard of......it was awesome!! Then we stripped down and hit the pool, and had some hang time over at the G's pad for the nightbyt the fire. made some smores and popcorn in the fire and...had some really awesome spiritual convo! A drive to the Balsams

One afternoon, i think it was the day before New Years Eve, we drove about 40 minutes North and hit The Balsams. It was so beautiful there, nice drive and like a half an hour from the Canadian Border...lol
We took a drive around the compound and wow...check out this old hotel, its totally eerie. Then we drove over to the ski hill, its pretty nice, small but cheap...I like Cheap....

While we were driving there, we hit this amazing hill, the story is not justified when you read it because it lacks the big eyes and hand movements and facial expressions but...here goes, so we are diving on the skinny road north to The Balsams. We are almost there we all scream in the car, we are going only 25 miles an hour but the road totally disappears and we are like WHOA!!! Ok, so it doesnt really disappear because we are here to write about it but, it was a huge drop and Tommy thought he had a heart attack or something, he was driving. Anyway, we were driving back and we fifgured the road wouldnt do that on the way back because it was flat before we hit the hill the first time....we were wrong...anyway, its not funny when you are reading it, Im actually getting bored writting about it without the hand movements and stuff...so, thats it...we went over a scary hill and....next time I see ya Ill tell ya the story.

We had some snow fall upon us the night before my parents arrived at our house. It is beautiful up here when it snows!
Christmas with my parents was awesome. They came up for a couple of days and I think they had fun, I know we did. We had a huge turkey dinner (that we ate all week) and then played the wii for hours upon hours....lol

My dad brought some wood up and we had a fire for the entire day!

So last week we couldnt find a place to go sledding because we dont really know the hot spots yet around here. SO, we asked around and the most common answer was GO TO THE BOWL! so we did. Believe it or not, its hard to find a sled around here, we even went to walmart and couldnt find anything worth buying so...Isiah and I made our own sled this morning. We took an old snowboard and took the bindings off to attatch it to the bottom of a huge rubermaid container. Waitn until you see the videos, they are great!!

So Sunday we had the best storm ever, it was beautiful and fluffy! We decided to go outside and play in it and roam around the neighborhood. So we started in front of our house and on our street and decided to venture around, we found a huge mound of snow two streets over, we buried daddy in the snow just like Nadia likes it at the beach. Hello on this snowy winter day! Just wanted to give an update about Christmas. Most of you know that we do not exchange Christmas gifts, instead we encourage all of our friends and family to participate in organizations like, The Chase Home in portsmouth nh, or Habitat for Humanity (which thanks to our good friend Cheryl Van Allen and her peeps, has a RE-STORE open on the Seacoast). The Crossroads House in Portsmouth NH holds a special place in our hearts as well, they always need meals and help serving those meals. Did you know you can feed 60 people for $35 dollars? Ive done it! its easy!

Anyway, my point is, get involved. Not everyone who is poor and lonely is that way because they've voluntarily chosen to be. Yes, granted many people don't put effort into making a better life for themselves. Stop and think about the way some of these people grew up? Often these people are a product of their parents, their upbringing and the morals they were taught. Ill tell you something, if it wasn't for my parents adopting me and teaching me values and discipline, there is a good chance that I would be one of those people needing someone to teach me and love me and respect me.
I however, like most of you, was blessed with a good upbringing and grew up to make good choices with my life. Of course not all of my choices were good, we are all sinners in Gods eyes! But, some people don't even know what their life is worth. Some never had a chance to have Starbuck's, get a massage, have a nice hair appointment, fill a grocery cart with food, use paper towels in their kitchen, have a kitchen, use soft toilet paper, eat lobster, use a cell phone, have an email account or a bank acount, wear white socks, clean underwear....u get the point. Love a stranger this Christmas, Its Jesus's birthday and you wouldn't even have this Holiday if God hadn't sent him here to die for our sins. I dare you all to give at least $5 to a completely selfless cause this winter! If you are unsure of what to use that $5 for....Check out the new additions to our family, Irakoze Shalom and Erick Kamala, $5 could give them a meal for a week or more.
Put a dollar a week in a shoe box, thats $52 you can give to a child or family in need.

Training at Brenton Woods

Saturday I went to Brenton Woods for some training. Training to be a volunteer snowboard instructor. It was so beautiful on the ride there, the trees up in the mountains had ice all over them and the sun was reflecting on them like a brand new snow globe. I wish the pictures could do them justice but they obviously dont.
Im going to be teaching lessons to after school kids program that I learned about through the new church that we have been attending. Basically the kids get to go for 6 weeks from 12-5ish to Brenton Woods for $45. That price is in sane!!! So I thought Id try to tag along as a chaperone but, when I asked about it they said they needed actual instructors as well as chaperones so...IM IN!!! Got an awesome bonus too, if you agree to teach the munchkins you get a season pass to Brenton Woods....I can now go there any time I want, holidays, weekends, mornings...whatever....I cant believe it, im really excited!!

Popcorn and Cranberries

Every year the kids and I hang popcorn and cranberries on the tree. Last year nadia got to use a real needle instead of the rounded edge kind. Its always frustrating in the beginning to get the popcorn to stay on the string but once you get going, it moves along quite easily. The kids always like to eat more popcorn than actually gets on the string. Here are a few pics of the project.

So we moved up to the mountains thinking that we would definitely cut down our own tree...well...we went into North Conway to catch a move and decided to grab some things at Lowes for the beds. When we got there, they were selling trees for $20 and we thought that was great, lets just strap it on and be on our way because it was SOOOOO COLD!!! So, we got one step up, $30 for the tree and we got free hot cocoa and the wrapped it and put it in the car too. I thought we had a deal until I talked to a friend up here. She told me that they are selling trees for $15 right next to the school....geez...what a sucker! so really we paid $5 for each hot cocoa....LOL

So Ive been working on the fold away beds for a few weeks but, Ive changed my plans three times during thins time and....went for the cheeper route. Isiahs is half done but I finished Nadias today. Well, the basics are done, we still have to decorate it and put the elastic edging on so the mattress and blankets dont move around. More pics when we finish Isiahs...and Decorate Nadias...They will be very happy to have more room to play, all they do is wrestle...lol

Today after school the kids and I took a walk down town. If you live in a city can you still call it down town? I mean, what else do I call it?
Anyway, the picture with the square building is the surf/skat/snowboard clothing shop which is totally awesome. Cheaper than anything you can find on the east coast, most stuff anyway.
Berlin isnt messing around during the Holidays, before Thanksgiving was even here they had the lights and decorations ready to go. One of our favorites is the manger scene that is posted in this post. Then we took a little walk to the hydro-damn area and its pretty cool. There are awesome spots all along the Androscogin river to enjoy how nature and technology can come together!

Well, the most exciting thing going on right now is Isiahs Basketball. They lost their game the other night but they are still 2nd for the playoffs which start next week or the week after. We signed Nadia up the other day for her team but it doesnt start until the end of t he month. We havent had much snow since Sunday night, it was really sunny and nice Monday and Tuesday but yesterday and today are a little cold. Ill try and get some pics of around town today with nadia. There are lots of things going on up here this weekend, Santa is visiting tonight, tomorrow and Santurday...I guess he likes the City. Lately Ive been reading in the paper about the debate wether to build a casino up here or not. I think NoT! There has to be another way to create jobs up here. Of course I do not judge or condone gambling for others but there are serious addictions that come with gambling. Its not the end of the world if they build a casino here, it would just be sad if the crime rate went up and if MORE people lost their homes in the attempt to make some fast cash....but anyhow...Ill keep yall posted. We are around this weekend if anyone wants to visit!!!

ThanksGiving!!!

It was awesome to come home for Thanksgiving. The last two or three years we have been volunteering at a church in Hampton Falls, serving dinner to less fortunate people. But this year I was thinking that maybe we would serve up here in Berlin but to my surprise, we were not needed. A part of me really wanted to be home and thankfully my Mom and Dad were having a big dinner at their house. I was really excited because my Nana was going to be there and, she has been battling Altimeters for about 5 years now, and in the two years she has started to forget some of us. God brings joy through her somehow though...she makes us laugh and seriously brings us down to earth where are roots are bound. She gives us flashbacks, quiet memories and somber moments to realize whats important in life. I am blessed to have my Nana here to love and tickle and hug. She is Joy, she IS Joy.
So.....we left Berlin at 6am so Tommy could get in a game of flag football in Rye with some friends of ours and then we headed off to my parents house. Naturally, I took over the kitchen and prepared pretty much everything but the turkey my parents did a fantastic job on that!!!! I wanted to help out so my Mom could relax and enjoy my Nana and the kids. And of course there is the fact that.....I love to cook...lol...

It was scary this morning in the mini van, that car is crap in the snow. Tommy and I almost didnt get home in one piece because we started sliding down a hill backwards. We tried to find the flattest way home and...it still was too steep. We have GOT to get rid of this thing...Now that Tommy had to drive it in these conditions...I think he takes me a little more serious now...

so, the move went well we had a good time and it was quick and no bumps in the road. A big THANK YOU to my mom and dad, John jr., Laura and Dan, Garrett and Monique, Chris and Sara, Erica and Leah, Allison and Kevin and of course Scott m Harris! We drove up on saturday morning, dropped the budget truck off on saturday night, yes thats right we had to rent a truck last moinute...long story. We went out to dinner in littleton NH, at this awesome little diner. Got up the next morning went to the patriots game, slept at my parents and came home to Berlin monday morning. So I get home from hangin with my best bud Laura and Tommy says, I need to talk to you. When Tommy says that I know he means business because there are not allot of serious moments in this house. He tells me that our mortgage has been denied. What? So, Basically long story short our Mortgage guy, loan officer whatever you call him KEN LAMBERT is his name by the way, didnt do his job correctly. He told us two months ago that we were approved and everything was slick, he told our realator it was a go and he told the seller it was a go. So, 7 days before we are supposed to buy our first home, he tells us sorry....but, because you own your own business, you are too much of a risk in this economy. Basically, if Tommy was an employee of YoParts, we would be all set, or maybe if he was flipping burgers. He is trying to tell us that he didnt know this two months ago? what a flake. anyhow....as of last weekend, we were all packed and no place to go. Our realator, Roxanne Mailhot, was so awesome, working for free at this point, said she would do everything she could to get us up there. So there was this older couple in the late 80's and they had their house sold, up until the day before closing they were good to go, the buyer backs out last minute and the seller is already on their way to Florida. SO, remax winterizes the place and decided to deal with it in the spring, WELL......Roxanne has is awesome idea to help all of us out in this situation. We rent their house for the winter, and they have someone taking care of the property and we only sign a 6 month lease so we can start looking again in the spring....awesome right? Everything happens for a reason. We had so many friends and family praying for us and checking in on us, it was a stressfull last few days but, we tried so hard to give it up God and let him guide us. Its hard to do when you are scared out of your mind but its the only way, so.....thats the story and here are some pics of the new place. OH...and we are still moving in on Saturday....

Halloween 2008

We had a blast halloween taking the kids trick or treating. We went with our friends and Isiah was so good, he took their three year old under his wing and she had so much fun. She was scared to knock on peoples doors but he took her and she was so excited!!!
Isiah was Harry Potter and Nadia a black kitty cat. We made out like bandits....so much chocolate!!
And Friday night we went to the Portsmouth Haloween parade....Nadia wanted to go soooo bad....Im glad we went. It was funny. The best part was at the very end of the parade, Obama and McCain were hugging.....cute masks....

You Got Boooed

SO...tonight Nadia and I went on an adventure. WE deressed up like bandits and participated in YOU GOT BOOOED. Check it out at GOT BOOED.
WE filled up two buckets of goodies and dropped them off at our friend Marys house and Morgans house. So, we put the buckets on the front step and then rang the door bell and ran as fast as we could...OMG, I felt like a kid again!!! It was so much fun, here is a video and some pictures that Nadia and I took. HeHEHEHEHEHEHEHE!!!! I think Morgans Dad caught us... :-(

Murphy Bunk Beds

So, this house has small bedrooms and Ive been researching cool stuff to do in the kids rooms to make it more fun and spacious. These beds fold up into the wall. Of course they are like $2000 BUT, I can get the plans and build them myself. I can have 'em done in a week. The kids are psyched to help make these and to have more room in the personal space, they have already planned a game of volleyball in Isiahs room...lol

Metal roofing: We are researching metal roofing because it will last forever and it is better for the environment. Seems to look beautiful too...pricey.

SO, we read that it snowed on the top of Mt. Washington Tuesday night, ya...thats cool.

Appraisal Done

This is the Androscoggin River, 2 minutes from our house. Our house was appraised @ $60,000 and we paid $55,000....that's a good thing. We had no idea what would happen and he didnt say anything about electrical so, we are good to go. Now we just have to continue waiting for the bank to process everything and then hopefully we can move in on the 8th....
We have already started packing and the kids are getting pumped. Isiah was just going over the map and saying he is so excited to be up in the mountains. Im sure we will all be a little home sick and once in awhile we will miss home but, home is what we make of it. We can have two homes if we want, a house isnt what home is, Home is where you seek comfort. We are all a little sad, excited, scared, happy, nervious,...pretty much every emotion....But...when a door opens, you go in. We have learned from the past that we can make the best of every situation. God teaches us not to worry, its a waist of time. I cant wait to start changing stuff int he house.....hehe, hopefully we can get kayaks for next summer cuz we are like two minutes from the androscogin river and water falls. anyway.....just wantedt to update everyone on the appraisal. OH...and yesterday...LOLOLOLOL.....Isiah got out of the car to get the mail "Mom, Ill run back today ok?"..."sure", I say....well.....so he is following the car and Nadia and I start plotting a plan what we can do to be funny..well....I know the video isnt a good picture because I messed up with the angel. But...Imagine..Isiah running behind the car and I jammed on the brakes....OMG....We laughed from 2pm until 7pm....Im laughing as Im writing this actually......check out the video on the right.

Mary Devines New Home

Last night we helped our friend Mary move into her FIRST new home. She bought a totally renovated house built in 1900. It looks amazing inside. I have to share this funny story with you about the first time that she was in the house.
So, the realtor was doing an ordinary walk through with Mary and they were getting to the laundry area. Matt, Marys boyfriend noticed that the pile of clothing ontop of the washer was moving a little...."whats that?" he said. So they moved the clothes over to see and WHOA!!! Out pops a 13 year old boy scared out of his mind. His parents left him home alone and they didnt tell him that people were coming to look at the house so he freaked out and hid in the washer and pile dirty clothes over himself....

Nadia and Isiah both had soccer games this morning....Im not gonna tell ya who won or who lost but just this.....children are interesting these days.......

So we are on our way in a few minutes to take our family photos for 2008, Scottie Harris is a lifelong friend and the most amazing photographer!

So, I have some news that I just felt compelled to share this morning. We are not in the clear yet with the electrician, but we are supposed to get the final list of choices today. We will keep you updated when we find out for sure what we decide to do.
Tommy and I have been waiting for our taxes to come in because we were hoping to use that for the closing costs. We have been waiting for what seems like forever, Ive been asking Tommy every week, they come yet, they come yet?
no no no no NO... this was my response every time...so today I say, lets call em...ring em up! so we did, found out that we are getting $2,998.00 guess how much we needed for the closing costs?....$2,938.00. Dude, thats amazing...God is totally laughing right now...he's like, you guys were stressin out and I was about to hook you up all along.....
When are we gonna learn that if we give it all up, life is better. So, they said that the check was being mailed out TODAY....so...we are giving thanks and celebratin!!!!

Home Sold, Job Found & Goods sold on Twitter. Should eBay & Craig's List Watch Out?

In the last couple of weeks, I've learned about the first home to be sold on Twitter, a Canadian PR guy who found a job, and new invention to lessen pain in lactating moms. Along with these major items, there's an array, of people search for apartments, brokers getting listing, iPhones and used clothing that have changed hands in the real world through Twitterville encounters.
The house is the biggest deal, and the price also makes it interesting to home buyers and perhaps scary for home owners.
Tom Masiero is co-founder of YoParts.com , an online auto parts club, whose members get discounts on what they buy. He's been living in a rented condo in southern, New Hampshire, paying $1300 a month and figuring it would be some time before he could buy his own home in a place where he'd like to raise a family. Oh yeah, one other key point: He Twitters.
Enter my ubiquitous pal KDPaine also of Southern NH, not far from where Tom resides in the tangible world. KD has been doing some consulting for Coos County, in the Northern portion of NH, a place that gets spectacular this time of year, but also an area where the housing market is stressed. For example, Berlin, a scenic town of about 10,000 people has 200 homes on the market, 80 of them foreclosures.
Among the homes that has sat on the market with lawn sign gathering cobwebs since April is a little beauty owned by a 91-year-old widow who has lived in the 1200 square foot, three bedroom, two-story place all her life. The home is 102, and I'm told it has been well-maintained.
KD hears about the house and tweets about it, mentioning in her 140-character post that the asking price is all of $75,000. Tom reads the post, makes connections, rides three hours north and closes a deal for $55,000, in time for the widow to move to Florida before winter and his family to celebrate Thanksgiving amid the breathtaking late autumn foliage. "There's great broadband in Berlin and I can do most of my work at home, driving south just when I really have to. It really was the deal of a lifetime.
KD was so impressed with the prices and opportunities that she chipped in with an associate to buy an attractive vacation rental for a whopping $39,000. I have a hunch Paula & I will be staying in it next fall.
People who hang out in Twitterville, can't help but notice there has been a steady influx of residential real estate people lately. Why? Because, like politicians, they tend to be quick to notice where people are heading. Gina Kay Landis is one of them. She runs a national listing service and reports that she just picked up her first listing reference through her Twitter account. Perhaps it was the first ever. I have little doubt it will be the last.
John Carson reported to me that he got laid off from a PR job in Toronto, posted about it on Twitter and got rehired. I somehow managed to lose his email. John if you read this, contact me and I'll insert the links.
The most unique item that I could find sold so far on Twitter is the Shower Hug. Sam Bhavnani, is director of NPD Group in San Diego, when he is not surfing. When he's not doing either, he's tweeting as SamirB. He told me, "A girl I was friends with in high school, who tweets as PockLock just had a baby and was complaining about her sore breasts.
" It also happens that a good friend of mine in San Diego started a company based on an invention she had when she first became a mother and experienced the same problem. The Shower Hug is her product. It's a soft terri cloth type of thing women can wrap around their chest and wear in the shower, so they don't get hurt by the shower sprays. My friend back east went online and bought one. And she loves it."It just so happens I have a daughter who is breast-feeding two infants right now, so Sam's friend will wring up a new sale sometime in the near future.So what's going on here? Do I really mean to imply that these transactions could somehow threaten the mighty icons of eBay and Craig's List?Yes.Wherever people gather and converse, markets form. Both Craig's List & eBay have certain community characteristics. But they are not communities. Numeric rankings of credibility on technology is far from the same way people in real communities refer goods, service and each other.Twitterville is much more like a real community. We meet each other first and decide about each other in terms of reputation. We influence each other. Twitter was not built or intended to be a transactional marketplace. It lacks lots of functionality that you'll find at Craig or eBay. But it has something more valuable. It is an authentic community and it's members will make of that community whatever they want.I predict that there will be a great many more transactions that start with Twitter conversations, then move elsewhere to close the deal. Meanwhile if you like snow, mountains and fall foliage, I suggest you contact my pal KD. She seems to know where the deals are.

Going Green in Berlin

Well Ive been doing some research on some ways that we can go green in our home built in 1890...lol...
there are some really cool and easy ways to help the environment and its fun to do with the kids.
Of course everyone always has big dreams on what they want to do with their house, but you always get around to about 5% of those things..lol...
Im excited about the renovations but, more excited to do echo friendy stuff. First thing i want to do is create a worm composting unit, we can keep this through the winter and use the soil created in the spring. Then we are going to invest in some composting toilets. Garrett showed me this idea at first and I thought it was gross but after doing my research, I see how easy and most inportantly, how odorless it is. You can have your toilet generated by a little windmill on the top of the roof, genius. We will also be updating some insulation in the areas that we hope to expand, also updating the insulation in the attic. We hope to use the new Recycled denim insolation .

So we ventured up to Berlin today and had the home inspection. Everything went well, I learned allot about old homes, including electrical. Before 1945 a home was installed with Knob and Tube electrical, also known as K+T. This electrical is outdated and has been updated. Updated to Fire code standards, NO...why?...not sure...so not only are we going to investigate how much this will cost to upgrade, we are also going to get to the bottom of why the electrician put the old lady who lives there, in danger. I have done some research and found out that some electricians will only do the attic and cellar because they are most accessible. Im not sure if this is legal or not but, Ill keep ya updated. So we attatched a few photos from today, hope you enjoy. This weekend was the Northern Forest Herritage Festival, its a state park in Berlin, NH...Awesome...check it out. Tomorrow lumberjack festivities...and next weekend there is an awesome festival too. All along the androscogin river, which is beautiful, they have these floating bon fires with boat tours and beer...lol....it sounds like fun, I think we are going to try and check it out.

Tomorrow we are going up to Berlin NH so inspect the home that we are in the processing of buying. Its been a long process so far and Im definitely learning patience. We hope that all of our friends and family visit us. Now lots of our friends and family dont want to see us go, it was a hard decision. We have to do what is right for our family and with a new business taking off the ground we want a better quality of life for our kids. We are buying a home for $58,500 in a part of NH that we are all in love with. With this purchase we will be able to explore so much more that we would buying a home for $300,000.
There is so much to do up in the North part ot NH, we will be updating this blog as often as time allows so check it out and hopefully you will be joining us in our joy thoughout the seasons. We will have pics updated after this weekend when we get home.
I have uploaded some photos of this summer up near Berlin. Its about 45 minutes, we camped in Lincoln and North Woodstock nh. One of our favorite places was the Lost River Gorge.
